Frugal Friday: Budgeting

It is not very difficult to accustom yourself to being frugal but it is important to have a very clear budget that you stick to. We have had varying stages in our lives where our budget was much larger or much smaller than what it is now, but we realized that the larger budgets were just as much of a challenge. People tend to live up to their means and still desire more. It will always be a discipline to stick to a budget but it is a fun challenge to try to see how you can make things work.

If you’re interested in setting up a budget but don’t know where to start, I recommend  Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover.  You may also enjoy watching the show “Til Debt Do Us Part.”

We’ve adopt the “cash” budgeting system for ourselves and I really enjoy it–it not only prevents us from spending money we do not have but I also find it freeing to save up for desired purchases and then spend without guilt!

Here are some pictures of our well-worn “yellow folder” budget book. (I intend to sew a new one–I’ve already purchased the pattern from Craftsy)
